| Anti-Bullying Kick-Off at Radix |
Spirits were high on October 27th as Radix Elementary School, kicked off its Anti-Bullying 2011/2012 school year campaign. Approximately 730 students as well as faculty and staff observed the “Bully No More” show put on by the production company YOJO. The show, although spiked with humor, was a serious look into the world of bullying and how to identify the varying forms in which bullying exists. Audience participation was used as a way to teach the students and staff effective ways to combat bullying when it occurs in school. At the shows completion all students and staff, dressed in red, rallied around a 65 foot anti-bullying sign constructed by the school’s anti-bullying team. As a show of unity and as a pledge that Radix students will not tolerate bullying, their red shirts and a red slash signified a no tolerance approach to an epidemic that is currently plaguing schools nationwide.
Since the beginning of the school year, Radix Elementary has followed the Olweus Anti-Bullying Program. All staff at the school is trained on how to identify, report, and stop bullying behavior. Weekly classroom lessons are also implemented to increase student awareness of the bullying problem. The performance was just one more way to reach every Radix student and let them know with certainty that there will be, “NO Bullies….No More”!
