Penny Harvest

Pennies in a jar.October 5, 2009

Dear Parents and Family Members:

Did you know there are over $2 billion of unused pennies in America?  Many people wonder what to do with those jars full of pennies gathering dust.  The answer?  Give them to young people during Holly Glen School’s Penny Harvest!

Students and their families will work together to collect pennies from family, friends, and neighbors. The pennies will fund the school’s student-led and decided philanthropy project.  Holly Glen student leaders will regularly meet to research community needs and decide how to allocate the funds raised from the Penny Harvest, to support community service projects and charitable organizations.

Not a single penny collected by students is used for overhead, operations or any other purpose.  All collected pennies are given back to the students to meet community needs as they see fit. Your child has a great opportunity to make a difference, and so do you.  Our Kick Off Assembly will be held on Monday, October 19th at the following times:  10:00 a.m. for Grades K-AM, 1 & 2, and 2:00 p.m. for Grades K-PM, 3 & 4.

With the Penny Harvest, every penny counts and every person counts.  Please work together with your child to collect pennies – your support will make the Penny Harvest a success.  The process is easy.  The results are meaningful.  And, the need is there.  Together, we can make a difference.  On behalf of the students, people, families and organizations that will be touched by the Penney Harvest, THANK YOU!
