WILLIAMSTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL
NEWS FROM THE MIDDLE
PARCC TESTING BEGINS IN APRIL
This year, PARCC testing, the national testing program that is aligned to the common core standards, will take place beginning April 30. Sessions will continue through the first weeks of May. Specific schedules as far as tested subject and times are available on the Monroe Township curriculum website, but generally students will be tested according to the following schedule:
April 30th – May 4th PARCC Grades 5 & 8
May 7th – May 11th PARCC Grades 6 & 7 and PARCC Grades 5 & 8 make-up testing
May 14th – May 18th PARCC Grades 6 & 7 make-up testing
The English Language Arts and mathematics standards are the focus of this assessment for all middle school students. Current information from the state indicates that the PARCC test (algebra and ELA 10) will be a graduation requirement for all students currently in middle school. Please be sure that your child comes to school prepared to do his/her best on PARCC.
This year the NJ ASK science test has been replaced by the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment – Science. This assessment is also standards driven and will be taken by students on the chromebook. Students in grades 5 and 8 will be taking the NJSLA.
May 14th – May 15th Science Assessment Grades 5 & 8
May 16th – May 17th Science Assessment Grades 5 & 8 make-up testing
Please contact your child’s guidance counselor if you have any questions pertaining to PARCC or the NJSLA.
Thanks to all of our parents who submitted class trip permission slips and balances by the requested dates. This year we are held to strict budgetary deadlines as far as cancellation of busses. At this time, any student who has not submitted payment for the class trip but who would still like to go will be placed on a waiting list. If room is presently or becomes available on the busses we have contracted, the student will be notified and payment will need to be made immediately to secure the seat. Any parent who requests a refund for a class trip must do so in writing to Nancy Taylor, secretary to the Principal, by Thursday, March 29. After that date, refunds will not be issued. Fifth grade class trips begin first, in April.
