WHS PARCC NOTICE 2017

PARCC Testing for WHS will take place March 27 through March 31, 2017

Dear WHS Parents and Guardians,

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that we will be administering the PARCC at WHS the week of March 27th.  English Language Arts (ELA) will be administered the 27th, 28th, and 29th to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.  Math, specifically, Algebra I, II, and Geometry will be administered to all students enrolled in those courses on the 30th and 31st.  Although this may seem like an ambitious schedule, the following considerations were made in developing the schedule:

  • 5 consecutive days establishes a scheduled pattern of consistency, for staff and students.
  • Testing for a solid week sets the tone that we are taking testing seriously, with no other classes planned so no student testing will miss instruction.
  • 250 seniors will be away; that lessens the number of students to be scheduled during testing. In addition, there are more teachers available to assist with widespread testing.
  • Overwhelmingly, the teachers recommended completing the test in 5 consecutive days, rather than have a disrupted schedule with missed instructional time for 2-3 weeks.

How can you help?

  • Make sure all students have breakfast before school.
  • Make sure all laptops are charged at home, and brought to school ready for testing.
  • Be sure chargers are brought to school.
  • Please do not take students out of school that week.

What is important to know?

  • 0 period is cancelled for the week.
  • ALL 9th graders must take the PARCC to meet graduation requirements for the Class of 2020.
  • Students should bring headphones/ear buds to school for testing.
  • For current 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, the PARCC is among a state-approved list of assessments, one of which must be met with a proficient score to be eligible for graduation. It is strongly recommended that all current 10th and 11th graders participate in the PARCC.
  • The lunch schedule is being altered for the week.

Thank you for your on-going support and partnership!
